It just seemed to explode one day and now there are whole communities of very very strange people sitting infront of their keyboards naked with only the laptop to hide their modesty.

And I was thinking that the world is getting smaller and it isnt a good thng. I dont want to be able to google map a friends address in antartica. I want to feel the need to go there, to walk down her street and knock on her door. But I dont have to anymore. If she talks about the snowman at the end of the street I can see it I can rotate it and examine it.

But thats not really seeing it. To see it I would need to feel the icy wetness seeping into my boots, feel the biting air in my lungs and have my eyeballs seered by the sheer brilliance of the sun.

Kids dont want to go out an smell the flowers anymore - why should we when we can work from home, read on the computer and do everything we need at the click of a mouse.

There isnt any need to explore anymore - there isnt any mystery to the world. You dont have to hunt for information you just have to 'search' and google will give you all you need and more.

I remember at law school how I use to open the really old books. Cases from hundreds of years ago that may bear little or no relevance to today. But it smelt old, it felt old and it gave me a sense of place.

The text on a screen is remote and gives no sense of history.

And it is too easy to email. I think that I have forgotten how to talk on the telephone.

And it allows people to hide behind their words. I was reading today about a person on line. They gave a nice history of themselves, who they worked for, how many kids, where they were in the world. And then right at the bottom was three words that changed the whole context....'do you mastrabate?' spelt like that too.

And suddenly I realised that the internet is just fake and an excuse for perverts to ply their wares....

Makes me sick tis all.
